Treking in Bhutan


Bumthang Cultural Trek 10 nights/ 11 days

Bhutan Tour, Bhutan VisitThis Bumthank Cultural Trek will give an greater opportunity to go through the countryside living of a Bhutanese viz. villages, Lhakhang, landscape, etc. The best time to trek this route is between March-May and September-November. The trek begins with a 3 km drive from Kurje Lhakhang-Toktu Zampa.


Outline Itinerary

Day 01 Arrival In Paro (By Druk Air).
Day 02 Paro sightseeing and drive to Thimphu
Day 03 Thimphu sightseeing and afternoon drive to Punakha
Day 04 Punakha-Trongsa-Bumthang via Wangdue & Gangtey Gompa
Day 05 Bumthang sightseeing
Day 06 Trek to start (Drive to Toktu Zampa via Kurje Lhakhang)
Day 07 Toktu Zampa to Ngang Lhakhang (12 km, 4-5 hours)
Day 08 Ngang Lhakhang to Tahung (16 km, 6 hours)
Day 09 Tahung to Mesithang(16 km, 5-6 hours) trek to ends and drive to Bumthang. Over night in a Hotel/Guest House
Day 10 Bumthang-Thimphu
Day 11 Trip ends ! fly back home, taking with you the memory of a life time.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 6: TOKTU ZAMPA TO NGANG LHAKHANG (12 km, 4-5 hours): Walk for two minutes to Duer Chhu crossing suspension bridge with carved Buddha on the rock beyond the bridge. The pass through Bumthang Chhu along government animal husbandry office. After short distance is a Thankabi Goemba. Follow the left bank of Bumthang Chhu over Tibetan-style Chorten surrounded by prayer flags. The trail is steep climb up, there are two water driven prayer wheels, this is Ngang Lhakhang.


Day 7: NGANG LHAKHANG TO TAHUNG(16 km, 6 hours): Beyond Ngang Lhankhang take you lower, smaller, more level, than muddy area and rock. The forest is bamboo and lots of real bamboo, forming sunless and cold. After making lots of up and down trek, you come to camping place in the upper valley called Tahung.


Day 8: TAHUNG TO MESITHANG(16 km, 5-6 hours): Behing Tahung is Australian-aided sheep development project. The trekking route leads downstream next to the river, sometime on the road, sometime on the footpath, and reach to Tang valley at 2640 m. You can move down to Mesithang, which is 2 km south of Tang. Vehicle will come to Mesithang to meet you.
