Treking in Bhutan


Gangtey Trek 08 nights/ 09 days

Bhutan Tour, Bhutan VisitDangtey Treks is a short 3 days trek which includes both easy and moderate walks and takes you through the villages of Gogona and Khotakha It starts from Phobjikha valley, which is one of the most beautiful places in Bhutan and is a winter home of the rare Black-Necked crane that migrates from Tibet in winter. It is best in April to see the blooming of rhododendrons in the region. Best time to trek this route is between March-May and September-November.

Itinerary


Day 01 Arrival Paro
Day 02 Paro sightseeing & drive to Thimphu.
Day 03 Thimphu sightseeing
Day 04 Drive Thimphu to Gangtey
Day 05 Trek begins from Gangtey to Gogona (15 km, 6-7 hours)
Day 06 Trek to Khothangkha (16 km, 6-7 hours)
Day 07 Trek to Chazam(12 km, 5 hours) Treks ends and drive to Wangdi / Punakha.
Day 08 Wangdi & Punakha sightseeing and drive to Paro
Day 09 Trip ends ! fly back home, taking with you the memory of a life time.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 5: Gantey to Gogona (15 km, 6-7 hours): The trek leaves the valley at 2830m and leads south crossing Tsele La (3440m). It then short climbs to Gogona (3100m), a beautiful hilltop site overlooking a long valley. Near by is Gogona Lhakhang.


Day 6: Gogona to Khothangkha (16 km, 6-7 hours): a gentle climb leads to Shobju La (3410m), the trail down from the pass is rocky and muddy crossing small stream and Dolonga (2830m). Passing still down, you can see broad Khothangkha valley (there is govt. proposal for international airport in this valley), and Chorten Karpo.


Day 7: Khothangkha to Tikke Zampa (12 km, 5 hours): Walk down to Tashila at 2800m. Trek down further to the area of finest-bird watching area in Bhutan. Among the species found here are laughing thrust, shrike, magpie and woodpecker. The trail eventually meets the road near Tikka Zampa at 1500m, Chazam.
