Trekking in Bhutan
Trekking in Bhutan is an absorbing experience that could fulfil the fantasies of any ardent trekker keen on giving their adventurous spirits a free rein. The tantalizing promise of lofty mountains swathed in snow, valiantly soaring their spires into the azure skies, enticing your spirits to scale their dizzying heights. Misty trails that wind their course through sublime forests of moss-laden pines and tall whispering cypress that sing along with the crisp mountain breeze. The crystalline air is heavy with the tangy smell of pinecones and boisterous animals and birds saunter around in the wilderness. Torrents of sparkling water gushing in and out of deep and narrow gorges, curtains of water that careen down the sides of steep cliffs into bottomless ravines. Sprawling alpine meadows crawling with rare and exotic animals like blue sheep, snow leopard, musk deer, yak, feeding and foraging on its lush pastures. Placid glacial lakes scattered across the scenic landscapes are unspoilt vestiges of tranquility. The riotous exhibits of rhododendrons, orchids and wild flowers with the rare blue poppy, the national flower of Bhutan among them display a stunning prism of the most catchy colours shapes and sizes cherished encounters with peculiar and incredible animals and birds are quite common, but the lucky ones could even catch a glimpse of the rare snow leopard basking in the sun or quenching its thirst at a water hole.
The raw and rugged terrain of Bhutan is traversed by a multitude of roaring rivers of crystal clear waters. Cutting their courses through deep and narrow gorges and cascading along wide and verdant valleys holding enormous hydropower potential ensnared within their tremendous force. These mighty rivers of Bhutan fed by the glaciers of the Himalayas abound in a plethora of fish like brown trout in the upper valleys and the elusive masher in the lower reaches of the foot hills, where they make a dramatic exit out of the mountains to meander along the plains of India and eventually flow into the Bay of Bengal.
Other special activities you could indulge yourself in along with trekking are angling, pencil sketching, amateur bird watching, making herbal pot-pourries, etc. while your senses remain bewitchingly enamoured by the captivating scenery surrounding you. Besides trekking there is unlimited scope for challenging and invigorating outdoor activities like river and white water rafting, ballooning, rock climbing and mountain biking to pump up your adrenalin.
We conduct following trekking tours, which are approved routes of the Department of Tourism (DoT). Our trekking guides are DoT certified and licensed. We have also DoT certified cooks, and seasoned crewmembers, highly experienced in carrying out trekking expeditions at high altitude and extreme weather conditions.
While on the trek, you will be provided with following services viz. tent accommodation, pack animals like ponies/yaks, trekking guide and standard, nutritious meals prepared by a trained cook.
Suggested Equipments for a Trekker: All weather trekking shoes, camp shoes/thongs, socks – polypropylene, down/fiber-filled jacket, jumper/pile jacket, hiking shorts (for men)/ divided skirt (optional) for women, waterproof jacket, poncho/umbrella, hiking pants, T- shirts/blouses, underwear, sun hat/cap, swimwear (optional), rucksack, sleeping bag, water bottle, dry-cell battery powered flash light, toilet paper, cigarette lighter for a smoker, multi-purpose knife, sun block, towel, medical/first aid kit, pre-moistened tissue paper, sewing kit, bandanna, moisturizing cream, chap sticks and zealous enthusiasm to experience your spirits soar in wanton abandonment.
Trek above 4000 meters: Footwear: mountain trekking boots; socks (wool, to wear with boots); socks (light cotton, for under wool socks); down bob ties (optional); Clothing -insulated paints, nylon wind breaker, nylon wind pants, long underwear, woollen cap, gloves, long gaiters; Miscellaneous- sunglasses, sun block for lips
